This month, our spotlight turns to the Uptown Horns. Their long, successful, and festive career has paired them with musical giants from James Brown to The Rolling Stones to The B-52’s. In a September interview with Mike Thorne, The Uptown Horns was gracious enough to share their thoughts on music technology, the recording and production process, and a their own personal "horn section philosophy." As always, all of our artist interviews are available in its full text along with and audio version.

To further augment the Uptown Horns interview, we've included three complete audio tracks from their earlier projects. The first two tracks coming from 1987's Uptown Horns Band release A Shot In The Dark, and the final track from 1982's Sic F*cks album. In addition, each member of the Uptown Horns now has an updated personal web page with biographical information and interesting links to some of their side projects.

In late October we will be launching our DJ remix contest. Your winning remix could be chosen for release on 12" Vinyl! Get a headstart now by visiting our DJ corner. We now offer 88 samples, mostly horn, rhythm, and vocal extracts from the Sprawl album. Use them as playthings or, if you're a pro, kindly drive the dance floor crazy. Take our samples to another level by using a simple audio application to slice and dice if you must knock yourself out.

For the past month, our special Wire section continues to generate a lot of interest from fans of all ages. To augment Mike Thorne's commentary on the making of Outdoor Miner, we bring to you a complete audio track of the single that was almost a the hit in the UK. This particular version, unlike the version on the Chairs Missing CD, includes the piano playing of Mike Thorne.

As you can see, we've been pretty busy this month. Recording returns to the Stereo Society as BETTY enters the studio to record their latest project with Mike Thorne. Wildly opportunistic, it will be the perfect soundtrack to end 1999 with a bang! We'll be boosting their site real estate considerably at release time.
