Things are relatively quiet this month. So don’t forget the huge pile of news that was in our second November newsletter, which you can still read online, along with all past newsletters back to 1999.

The Stereo Society continues to concede the existence of the holiday season, and reminds you of our two seasonal albums. Snowbiz, the hardy annual from BETTY, is full of good cheer, awful mishaps and dismal occasions, rather like the group’s own erratic progression through showbiz itself.

Another hardy annual is BETTY’s holiday show at Joe’s Pub, New York. This year, they present three days of Heroine Holidays, Thursday December 21 through Saturday December 23, all shows at 9:30 pm and $20. Guests will include Emily Saliers (The Indigo Girls) and Gloria Steinem. Book early: these shows will sell out.

More festive music comes from Hilly Kristal, manager of CBGB’s: the Mud Christmas download. The original was the B-side of the 1976 CBGB’s Christmas single, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, which persisted in the club jukebox for many years. Years back, after probably one festive beer too many at the bar, Hilly and Mike Thorne decided to put together an essential party record which eventually appeared on Hilly’s Mad Mordechai CD. It’s all about the little wiggly pig’s awful birthday presents, how they are all set in human tastes, how mud is the favorite and how you can find it or make it during any of the four seasons. No, we couldn’t make this up. You can download the Christmas version from iTunes and the rest.

As you may know, Hilly’s legendary club on New York’s Bowery hosted its last performance October 15th, closing after 33 years in the same spot. New York economics make it very unlikely that it will reopen elsewhere in the city. However, the Las Vegas connection gets stronger: an unlikely relocation makes more sense the more you think about it. Meanwhile, they have opened a store on St Mark’s Place in New York (between Second and Third Avenues).

We have added more photos to the CBGB’s/Shirts gallery pages, showing scenes from that crowded last night and from the day before they handed the keys back to the landlord.

Further in the picture department, we add a few more of Lene Lovich on her second Knitting Factory performance on September 3, to her newly-constructed gallery.
