As we mentioned in a previous newsletter, Thorne’s new album, The Contessa’s Party has gone down very well with the New York dance community. Building on that, we commissioned prominent remixer Norty Cotto to translate the track Dancing With B into his own style. We’re delighted to release the results, along with three additional remixes by Thorne in very varying styles, one of which is over ten minutes long. Also, we release our first vinyl.

Norty’s vocal and dub mixes make up sides A and B of our 12” 45rpm single release. These and Thorne’s mixes are collected on our Dancing With B CD, which runs over 70 minutes at a cost including US/Canada shipping of just $6.99. The mixes are stylistically all very different. You can audition or download three minute excerpts from the six main ones. The CD comes in a full-presentation jewel case with full color printing.

For the first time, we offer a bulk download of track excerpts, which is feasible now that most of you are likely to have a broadband internet service. You get 20 minutes of music, seven extended excerpts bundled up in 18.5Mb in either mp3 or m4a format. As usual, you can also download individual excerpts.

Just to confuse you, the vinyl edition costs three dollars more than the far longer-playing CD (it’s not a cheap or easy medium to manufacture, we now remember). We pressed a limited edition of just 500 copies, of which 200 are already out there in the clubs.

The Shirts’ new album, Only The Dead Know Brooklyn, is finished and moving through manufacturing. It turned out very nicely, and we’ll be telling you more shortly when it is available for pre-release sale. By way of celebration, the band will be playing at CBGB’s New York on June 28.

Finally, as summer finally arrives in New York, we are close to celebrating achieving a total of 1000 Web pages on the Stereo Society site. Sounds like lemonade in the sunshine will be in order. It’s over seven years since we first launched, on tax day 1999. Almost part of the furniture, you might think.
