Heading into our US mid-summer, with the nights closing in already, we relay the culmination of BETTY’s six-week run in Chicago with a new spread of photos from their show BETTY Rules, which is expected now to run in several other cities.  This new series complements the set from their six-month New York residence at the Zipper Theatre which ended last year.

Genya Ravan visibility will surge in the fall with CD releases of two of her solo albums, …And I Mean It and Urban Desire, in August on Hip-O Records.  Completely fresh is her long-awaited autobiography Lollipop Lounge: Memoirs Of A Rock ‘n’ Roll Refugee, due for publication in September.  Expect many more noisy anecdotes. Meanwhile, she plays New York's Cutting Room the last Tuesday of every month.

Also active this month is Lene Lovich, gearing up one step at a time.  Lene plays London for the first time in a long time, two nights, August 7/8, 8.30pm at Oxford House, Derbyshire Street, Bethnal Green.  Phone: 020-7739 9001.  Tickets are available at the door, through Ticketmaster at 08700 600 100, or online at TicketWeb.

Continuing the Soft Cell saga which started with the bang of Tainted Love, we post Thorne’s short commentary on the making of the group’s second album, The Art Of Falling Apart.  This was in fact their process underway, the music changing from the whimsical optimism of earlier recordings to convey what looks in retrospect to be a much more pessimistic message.  This was the first release from the group not to make a big impact on the audience, and would be the last with Mike Thorne producing.  After their next album, Last Days Of Sodom, the group would call it quits until their revival a few years ago.

As to our production activities, pre-mastering is now complete on the CDs from Lene, Thorne and Johnny Reinhard’s landmark performing version of Charles Ives’ Universe Symphony.  Release details to follow shortly.  The new covers are nice, too……
