It’s been a while.  We have a few thin excuses. 

Our major upset is a complete rebuild of the Stereo Society studio in New York’s West Village, the sort of project which always seems to take more time than you expect.  After nearly 20 installed years, it was time to rethink completely the way we make recordings, and the change has been coming for some time.  Gone are the two big macho mixing desks, along with most of the hardware. 

Very recently, the high-end Macintosh computers finally became powerful enough to support the large sessions we develop.  It was time to move to a virtual studio, effectively a large ProTools system.  Even now, there are some lumps of hardware that are not satisfactorily emulated virtually, so we have kept these.  Once the rebuild is complete, we’ll post before and after QuickTime VR panoramas, along with an article about the ideas behind this radical change (which will include observations about which old-style techniques should not be discarded).

We have completed the move to a new site server and support crew.  This is partly why the site has been static for too long.  Thanks for not pointing out that the header on the home page insisted that ‘The Stereo Society Sizzles In Summer’ until December 14 and digging out from our first big winter storm here.  We’ll be implementing a few updates and improvements as we go, although not as frequently as before. 

Another project stopped in its tracks is ‘Dancing At The Stereo Society’.  We’ll get back underway with this and some new ideas in a couple of months or so in the depths of winter when things are really gloomy.
